Penny Wars : January 17 ~ 20

Save your pennies because your PFA is kicking off the annual “Penny Wars!”  From January 17 through January 20, we will be asking your children to participate in a “penny war” for a great cause.  Each classroom in all grade levels will compete among their same-grade classrooms to raise money to benefit The Pennies from Heaven Fund, part of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation.

The Pennies from Heaven Fund helps families with hospitalized children to ease the financial burden of staying with their child throughout such a difficult time. Pennies from Heaven can provide assistance with food, sibling care and transportation costs or other expenses. 100% of donations go directly to families with a hospitalized child and allow a family member to be by their side.

This is an especially meaningful fundraiser for all Franklin families, as the Pennies from Heaven Fund was started by an NA family several years ago. The PFA would like you and your family to take this opportunity to talk about the importance of community service and how each person’s small part can make a huge impact on a neighboring family in need.

Rules of the “Penny War”: Each day your children will be given an opportunity to donate their pennies to their own classroom jar. Silver and dollar bills are strongly encouraged to be dropped in “enemy” classrooms, as they will be counted against that classroom’s total penny count. No checks will be permitted. At the end of the week, jars will be tallied and a winning classroom for each grade will be announced with a special reward!

- 2016-2017 School Year -

Franklin's annual Penny War raised a grand total of $3,527.57 for the Pennies From Heaven Foundation. This is an incredible amount of money for a school of our size (under 400 students) to raise in just 4 days! Great job, Franklin!

The homerooms at each grade level that "won" the Penny War were:
· KC
· 1B
· 2A
· 3A
· 4A
· 5C

The classroom with the highest total money raised was 2B!
